Lung Cancer

Lung Cancer is the uncontrolled growth of cells in the lung resulting in invasion of tissues nearby. Mostly the Lung Cancer originates from the lining of the bronchi. Depending upon where it originates, its behavior, and the type of cell that makes the cancer, makes a difference in what type of Lung Cancer you have, as well as how treatable.

Lung Cancer is of the most common cancers in the world. Lung Cancer can be caused by many types of circumstances, such as smoking cigarettes, asbestos and air pollution. So you can greatly decrease your risk in catching Lung Cancer, by stopping smoking, as well as making sure you have a clean environment.

There are two major types of Lung Cancer: small-cell Lung Cancer (sometimes called “oat-cell” carcinoma), and non-small Lung Cancer. All in all, only about one in five Lung Cancers are small-cell, the rest are non-small cell Lung Cancer.

• Non-small cell Lung Cancer:

This is the most common among the main two types lung cancer and is comparatively slower of the two in terms of growth. This type of Lung Cancer is further divided into three types based on the cells: Adenocarcinoma, large cell carcinoma, and squamos cell carcinoma

• Small-cell lung cancer:

This is the rarer of the two types (making up about 20%) of all Lung Cancers. Compared to non-small cell Lung Cancer, this type is more aggressive in nature and spreads quicker.

So make sure you have regular tests to see if you have developed Lung Cancer, especially if you are a heavy smoker, so it can be quickly treated by a professional. This can greatly improve your quality of life in the long-run, so don’t hesitate to have yourself checked for Lung Cancer.
