Anal Cancer

Anal Cancer is an uncommon disease in which cancer cells are found in and even around the anus. The anus is the opening of the end of the rectum. Anal Cancer in the other parts of the anus is more common in men; cancer in the inner parts of the rectum is more common in women.

If your anus if often red, swollen, and sore, you have a greater chance of getting anal cancer. Chances of recovery from Anal Cancer depend on the stage and location of the Anal Cancer. It also depends on factors such as the patient’s health and age. There are many symptoms that can indicate Anal Cancer. So, you should visit a doctor if following symptoms appear: pain or itching in the anus region, bleeding from the rectum, or a growth near the anus.

If there are signs of Anal Cancer, a doctor will examine the anal region. This includes a very thorough examination if there are any lumps in the region. The doctor may decide to take a sample of tissue (take a biopsy) from the region and study it to determine if it’s cancerous.

The choice of treatment for Anal Cancer largely depends upon the stage of cancer. Survival rate is higher if the Anal Cancer is diagnosed at an early stage, as well as a better choice of treatments. So make sure to have regular screenings to check for Anal Cancer.
